Cleaning disinfecing catbox?

Is it necessary to disinfect the litterbox once a month? I usually have been every 6 or so. sanitizing with bleach and rinsing out very well. How often do you sanitize it and if you do, do you think it drasticallyover longterm makes a difference with possible disease or something developng
