What is photon? The book says it is neither wave or particle?

Ok i have been studying photons in school and the book says light is neither wave or particle but a photon. Yet in most of the time the book refers photon as a particle. Also the EM spectrum shows the radiation as having wavelength and photon energy. Please Physicists, scientists, nerds or any other smart human out there help me clear this up. Thanks
